چکیده

The effect of an 80 nm YSZ interfacial layer, deposited onto a YSZ pellet by different techniques (dip-coating, sputtering and atomic layer deposition) at the SOFC cathode/electrolyte interface to allow a maximum adhesion of the thick cathode layer, was thoroughly analysed. The LSM cathode was deposited on the solid electrolyte by painting and sintered in air at 1200°C for 2 h. The morphological and structural analyses of the samples were performed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction; their electrical properties were examined between 390 and 700°C by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The impedance responses showed three different contributions. The highfrequency arc is attributed to the YSZ electrolyte. The electrode processes associated with the mediumand lowfrequency arcs were discussed. The electrochemical performance was influenced by the microstructure at the electrode/electrolyte interface.

Fabrication of low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells with a nanothin protective layer by atomic layer deposition

Anode aluminum oxide-supported thin-film fuel cells having a sub-500-nm-thick bilayered electrolyte comprising a gadolinium-doped ceria (GDC) layer and an yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) layer were fabricated and electrochemically characterized in order to investigate the effect of the YSZ protective layer. The highly dense and thin YSZ layer acted as a blockage against electron and oxygen per...

Investigation of the electrical properties and corrosion resistance of TiN coating deposited by reactive sputtering on the titanium bipolar plate, used in polymeric fuel cell

The effect of titanium nitride film on the properties of titanium bipolar plates used in polymeric fuel cell was investigated in this research. TiN coatings was deposited on the Ti-grade 1 substrate by using DC-sputtering method. Pure titanium was used as target and coating deposition was done in argon and nitrogen atmosphere. Different TiN thickness was developed by changing sputtering time. T...

Micro-tubular solid oxide fuel cell based on a porous yttria-stabilized zirconia support

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are promising electrochemical energy conversion devices owing to their high power generation efficiency and environmentally benign operation. Micro-tubular SOFCs, which have diameters ranging from a few millimeters to the sub-millimeter scale, offer several advantages over competing SOFCs such as high volumetric power density, good endurance against thermal cyclin...

Optimization of DC reactive magnetron sputtering deposition process for efficient YSZ electrolyte thin film SOFC

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ, ZrO2:Y2O3) thin films were deposited by reactive DC magnetron sputtering with a high deposition rate from a metallic target of Zr/Y in an argon/oxygen atmosphere. Plasma parameters and composition analysis of the gas phase reveal that the sputtering process in the “compound” mode is reached for a 2.5 sccm oxygen flow rate. Deposition onto silicon in “metal” mode...

Operando X-ray Investigation of Electrode/Electrolyte Interfaces in Model Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

We employed operando anomalous surface X-ray diffraction to investigate the buried interface between the cathode and the electrolyte of a model solid oxide fuel cell with atomic resolution. The cell was studied under different oxygen pressures at elevated temperatures and polarizations by external potential control. Making use of anomalous X-ray diffraction effects at the Y and Zr K-edges allow...
